Accelerating Towards a Low Carbon Future: Driving Sustainable Transformation through Multidisciplinary Research
Woodside Energy and Monash University are proud recipients of multiple Industry Researcher awards from Round 2 of the Australian Government Department of Education‘s National Industry PhD Program. We are excited to announce that these Industry Researcher projects have commenced!
Project Overview:
One of the projects examines the trade-offs and synergies between energy, greenhouse gas emissions, and food security. It aims to improve the evaluation of sustainable technologies and provide Woodside Energy with enhanced knowledge and data analysis capabilities to assess the system-level effects of novel technological solutions.
Another project takes a system-level approach to evaluating energy and abatement technologies, such as carbon capture and utilization technologies. This research will ensure these technologies are deployed in optimal settings, enabling the delivery of world-class projects.

Collaborative Approach: These projects combine Monash University’s renowned expertise in sustainability and engineering with Woodside’s industry leadership in the energy sector.
Value for Industry: Our partnership accelerates the creation of operational solutions, benefiting both industry and society. As Industry Supervisor Jitendra Joshi comments, “academia offers novel ways of thinking in solving today’s societal challenges, and collaboration between industry and university will accelerate the deployment of viable solutions.”
Industry Researcher Perspectives:
Anrie Helberg: “It’s amazing to learn from top-tier research while working in industry, and to contribute to a project that positively impacts the environment and society.”
Lex Simons: “This is an excellent opportunity to integrate the great work being done in both academia and industry to deliver products that benefit all.”
Both Industry Researcher PhD Candidates are being supervised at Monash by Professor Paul Webley.
Thanks to Renata Diaz and Claudia De Los Rios, PhD for facilitating these collaborations!!
