Follicular fluid: the forgotten fluid
Campus Plus is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking collaboration between Repromed, a leading IVF clinic, and the University of Adelaide on an Australian Government Department of Education National Industry PhD project.
This innovative research aims to identify biomarkers in follicular fluid to develop novel, non-invasive tools for assessing egg quality. By improving egg selection, we can create more effective and personalized IVF treatments, reducing time to pregnancy and enhancing success rates. This project addresses a critical unmet need in reproductive medicine and holds exciting potential for real clinical application.

University of Adelaide’s Perspective:
Dr. Jessica Grieger, Senior Research Fellow and lead academic supervisor, shares:
“By analyzing follicular fluid for key nutritional markers, lipid levels, and oxidative stress linked to egg quality, this research aims to improve embryo assessment during IVF. Identifying these early indicators may help reduce embryo wastage and the need for multiple treatment cycles, ultimately increasing IVF success rates.”
Repromed’s Perspective:
Professor Deirdre Zander-Fox, Industry Supervisor and Scientific Director, highlights:
“This collaboration represents a significant step forward in reproductive medicine. By integrating biochemical insights into embryo assessment protocols, we can refine methodologies and develop new, non-invasive biomarkers. This research aligns perfectly with Repromed’s commitment to scientific excellence and translational research that directly benefits patient care.”
Dr. Juliette Koch, Industry Supervisor and Medical Director, adds:
“This National Industry PhD Program bridges cutting-edge research with clinical application in real time. Investigating follicular fluid and its link to egg quality could enhance our ability to predict embryo viability more accurately, improving IVF outcomes for patients. This partnership brings evidence-based innovation into the clinical setting, allowing us to tailor treatments more effectively and improve success rates across diverse patient groups.”
PhD Candidate’s Perspective:
Taylah Williams, PhD Candidate, expresses her excitement:
“I am incredibly excited to begin my PhD through the National Industry PhD Program, collaborating with Repromed. This unique opportunity allows me to work across innovative academic research and the IVF industry, with a shared goal of improving egg assessment during IVF. I am especially excited to contribute meaningful advances to fertility care and work alongside passionate researchers to translate research into real-world impact.”
Round 6 of the National Industry PhD Program will open early July. For more information on how to apply, please visit https://lnkd.in/gpVsGZZ6
