Beyond the commute: Reimagining Australian CBD travel in a post-pandemic world
Campus Plus is pleased to celebrate another Australian Government Department of Education National Industry PhD Project, which brings together QUT (Queensland University of Technology) and Hartecs Group. David Freer Land Use and Mobility is the PhD candidate and will be supervised by Jacob Weir from Hartecs and Associate Professor Jonathan Bunker from QUT’s Faculty of Engineering School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The Covid-19 pandemic significantly disrupted commuting patterns, particularly for those Australians traveling to Central Business Districts (CBDs). There was reduced demand for public transport, a decrease in congestion, and a significant rise in remote working. It is important for governments and businesses to have accurate data on travel patterns post-Covid to inform Government planning, policy and investment in transport infrastructure. This project will investigate sustained changes in Australian CBD commuter travel patterns after Covid-19 and new ways of working, providing evidence-based recommendations for better planning, policy, investment and management of transport and land use infrastructure.
