Predicting Livestock Weight Gain: Leveraging Machine Learning to Improve Productivity for Australian Producers
We’re thrilled to announce the University of Technology Sydney and AgriWebb project launch: “Predicting Livestock Weight Gain: Leveraging Machine Learning to Improve Productivity for Australian Producers.”
This initiative focuses on developing cutting-edge machine learning models to predict livestock growth, driving profitability, productivity, and risk management. By analysing variables such as genetics, feed, nutrition, and farm management practices, we’ll leverage extensive anonymised data from AgriWebb and its partners to tailor these models specifically for Australian agricultural conditions.
Once integrated into AgriWebb’s new planning tools, these predictive models are expected to significantly enhance decision-making and promote sustainable farming practices nationwide.

Supervisory Team:
🔹 Lead Supervisor: Dr Wei Liu
🔹 Industry Supervisor: Dr Kenny Sabir
Dr. Wei Liu shares his pride in witnessing former software engineering students advancing to PhD candidates who are now at the forefront of agricultural research:
“This initiative highlights UTS’s commitment to impactful research that addresses industry needs. By combining academic rigour with AgriWebb’s cutting-edge technology, we’re confident our research will yield innovative solutions. These PhD candidates are poised to make significant contributions to sustainable practices in agriculture. This collaboration bridges the gap between research and agricultural practices, tackling complex challenges while enhancing productivity and sustainability in Australian farming.”
Ayush Kanwal,PhD candidate and Data Engineer at AgriWebb expresses his enthusiasm:
“The National Industry PhD Program has provided me with an incredible opportunity to explore solutions to pressing agricultural challenges, like improving productivity on Australian farms. With access to AgriWebb’s extensive livestock data and University of Technology Sydney’s data science expertise, I’m equipped to create innovative solutions for today’s farmers. I’m excited to kick off this project and look forward to the positive impact our work will have on farm efficiencies and sustainability.”
