This exciting program will powerfully deepen links between industry and the research community.
The National Industry PhD Program has two streams.
-
- The Industry Linked PhD stream offers PhD candidates at universities a stipend boost and support to work on research projects co-designed by universities and industry.
-
- The Industry Researcher PhD stream supports researchers employed by Australian businesses to do a PhD while retaining their job and salary in industry.
The Industry Linked PhD stream will give PhD candidates at universities a chance to do research in industry, giving them invaluable real-world experience and networks and opening career opportunities for their future. Research conducted under the Industry Linked PhD stream is co-designed between industry and a university, forging new links and collaborations. As part of an Industry Linked National Industry PhD, PhD candidates will be provided with 12 weeks of training to deepen their insights on how to work with industry. They’ll also get a financial boost to their PhD stipend for up to four years.
The Industry Researcher PhD stream provides the opportunity to get a PhD qualification, deepen your expertise and fast-track your career without leaving your paid job with your employer. As an Industry Researcher PhD, you’ll give yourself a powerful career boost with a formal qualification and expand your professional networks – as you deepen links between your employer and the research sector. Employers will be paid $41,000 each year to subsidise the time their employee will spend embedded at a university doing their PhD. Through the program, employers can significantly boost their staff’s research skills and capacity, forge new links with the research sector and strengthen their company’s R&D capabilities.
